Freedom From Torture (or The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture as it was known then) is a charity who provide counselling, group therapy and ongoing support in the UK to survivors of torture from around the world. They run groups like gardening, music, creative writing and cookery, expert medical assessments to support survivors’ asylum claims and use their expertise and evidence to protect and promote survivors’ rights and hold torturers to account.
The organisation relies heavily on supporter donations, will legacies, raffles, fundraising events, trusts, grants, ethical investments and much more. As a monthly financial supporter of this organisation I was aware of their work and struck up a conversation with their Fundraising Manager who needed an invitation for a fundraising ‘Festive Dinner’. Given the international nature of their organisation I took my influence for the design from that, and ensured it was colourful and engaging.
